The season competition finale unfolded last night with the Joe Green Salver awarded for the best print. No more competitions now until the new season starts in the autumn.
Amanda Wright came along to judge our offerings, and was delighted by what we had to show her. She is no stranger to the Club but we don’t see her as often as we would like.
One can usually tell something of a judge’s preferences, but Amanda showed no bias. She was precise in her judgement and her critiques were aimed a helping and encouraging. She applauded creativity and simplicity, sometimes suggested vignetting or B&W, and pointed out texture. One thing that did come across: she doesn’t favour black and white mounts!
There were 43 entries from 15 members, all of a high standard. Although the entry was small, it gave Amanda the chance to give considered time to each print. She scored 75% of the images between 17-20, and went to great lengths to explain why the remaining quarter scored less.
The winner remains a secret until the AGM, but was picked from seven images which all scored 20s. Might it be you?
